This afternoon we took part in First Aid training with Andrea from Mini First Aid.
We learned how to call for help and what information we need to tell someone. Do you know your address including your postcode?
We know how to check if someone is breathing.
We had a go at basic CPR and also learned how to help someone who is choking.
We also learned how to put a patient into the recovery position. Can you show someone how to do this at home?

We had another fascinating lesson at Priory this week focusing on shadows and how our shadows change throughout the day. We also had to use our sticky learning by making scientific links to our Earth, Sun and Moon topic in Year 5.

An amazing afternoon was had by everyone in Year 6 taking on the characters in the Wizard of Oz story. We are definitely ready now to impress everyone in the Christmas production.
Science Light Lesson at Priory
Date: 4th Dec 2022 @ 7:12pm
We had a great first lesson at Priory High School this week learning about how light travels; which materials light can pass through and how mirrors can change the direction of light rays. It was great using their practical equipment - the ray boxes showed us really clearly the straight light rays.

We had a visit from Penwortham's Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon.
We found out about staying safe and how to escape safely in the event of a fire.
The children will be bringing home a reminder about fitting and checking your smoke alarm. I am sure they will tell you all how to check them weekly to make sure you all stay safe at home.

We made a kick start to our theme with a fitness test! We had to do lots of shuttle runs, squats and speed bounces to see how many we could do in 30 seconds! We will see if we improve in a few weeks time!
We have been finding out about the impact of different exercises on our bodies in our Science lessons.

We tasted different fruits so that we can think about the fruit we would like to put in our fruit smoothies.
Some of us found it tricky to know which was our favourite!
It was a yummy afternoon!

Big Question: Equality or Equity
Date: 6th Nov 2022 @ 10:47pm
Equality or Equity?
We began our half term thinking about what this means exactly.
We worked together to solve a problem of stacking cups without being able to use our hands and instead some string and an elastic band. We had lots of ways of solving the problem, but then Mrs Gaskell and Mrs Moncrief kept 'accidentally' knocking them down which wasn't fair.
Mrs Gaskell also tried to help those of us with injuries or pain. She gave each of us a plaster - even for tooth ache! It was funny, but the serious point was that it isn't right to treat everyone the same. This really got us thinking.
Year 6 'Evolution and Inheritance' Science Workshop
Date: 19th Oct 2022 @ 6:42pm
Last week, Year 6 had some special visitors in school. As part of their Science learning, 'Mr B and Mr T' came to talk to them about all things 'Evolution and Inheritance'. The children spent part of the day learning about the work of Charles Darwin and Mary Anning and had a go at being Paleontologists for themselves. They explored an array of different fossils and completed tasks, such as sorting, measuring, weighing and classifying. 'Mr B and Mr T' provided the perfect blend of knowledge, enthusiasm and humour. A fun day was had by all, including Miss Gabbott and Miss Fishwick!

We had a super time on our local walk this morning!
We were really observant trying to notice what we could see, hear, smell and feel on our way around.
We then drew our own maps of our walk when we returned to school!

Friday morning was more fun than anyone would have expected!
Year 5 welcomed Mr Souter to teach them all about Money Management and how to become more debt aware.
Mr Souter told us the importance of the 4 Ls - Look, Listen, Learn, Laughter. His main message linked to manageing our money was:
NEEDS are things we HAVE to have and WANTS are things we LIKE to have.
He taught us that debt means borrowing money and having to pay it back. During the morning, we learnt lots of money saving tips and that there was good and bad debt.
Serious content but hilarious delivery. Take a look at our photos and you will see what we mean!
