Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools to help reduce the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. Schools receive this funding for pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), children who have been eligible in the past six years, looked-after children, previously looked-after children, and children of service families.

Our aim at Penwortham Primary School is to ensure that all pupils, regardless of background or need, receive high‑quality teaching and the right support to achieve their full potential. If you have any queries please contact the Headteacher Kate Penarski at [email protected]

School Context

Penwortham Primary School is a welcoming, inclusive school serving a diverse community. We have high aspirations for all pupils and use Pupil Premium funding to ensure that disadvantaged pupils receive targeted support, high‑quality teaching, and access to wider opportunities.

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding

We follow the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) tiered approach, ensuring funding is used where evidence shows the greatest impact:

1. Teaching

  • High‑quality teaching for all pupils

  • Professional development for staff

  • Curriculum development and adaptive teaching strategies

2. Targeted Academic Support

  • Small‑group and 1:1 interventions

  • Phonics and early reading support

  • Speech, language and communication programmes

  • Tutoring and catch‑up support

3. Wider Approaches

  • Pastoral support and wellbeing interventions

  • Support with educational visits, clubs and enrichment

  • Breakfast club access

  • Attendance support and family engagement

    Service Pupil Premium

Service Pupil Premium is used to support the emotional wellbeing, stability and academic progress of children from service families. This may include pastoral support, access to clubs, mentoring, and help with transitions.

    Impact and Monitoring

We measure the impact of our Pupil Premium strategy through:

    • Pupil progress and attainment data

    • Attendance and engagement

    • Pupil voice

    • Monitoring of interventions

    • Governor oversight

Findings are reviewed termly and used to refine provision.

Free School Meals – Check Eligibility

If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals, please apply using the Lancashire County Council website:

    Free School Meals Application https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/free-school-meals
