Times Tables - Need to be learnt 'by heart' for fast recall

Try this link to the Carol Vorderman times tables checks - www.themathsfactor.com/times-tables-check/#/

In Year 4, learning our times tables is very important! Towards the end of Year 4 all pupils will take the national multiplication tables screening check. It is essential that children practice recalling times tables facts often. You can find fun games on websites such as Top Marks and timestables.co.uk to help your child learn them in an interactive way. Please encourage your child to maintain their times tables at home. PLEASE SEE THE GUIDANCE FOR THE 2022 MULTIPLICATION CHECK ATTACHED.

Year Four marched to the bookshelf in March 2022 to raise money for safe water taps in Malawi.

Our target was to read 250 books in March. We read 312 books!

Thank you so much for all of your support. We have enough for three taps to help Malawi, I am sure that will make a HUGE difference to peoples lives there. Year Four read 312 books during March, our target was 250, we are incredibly proud of them for their enthusiasm and enjoyment of reading whilst achieving this goal.

💗 MASSIVE THANK YOU YEAR FOUR, you did really well!

Another 💗 MASSIVE THANK YOU to our supporters for your kindness.

For more information please check out the charity website - Tap Twinning Charity Website

Thank you for your support!

March your way to the books for safe water for Malawi!

In Team Four we have set ourselves the class challenge to read 250 books between us during the month of March!

We are doing this to raise money for safe drinking water taps for Malawi in Africa. We researched the different places that we could support and after a vote we decided to help Malawi.

In Malawi, about 13 million people lack access to clean water. 1 in 3 people in Malawi don’t have clean water. There have been many cases of people being poisoned by drinking contaminated water, particularly in rural areas where access to clean and healthy water is limited. In rural areas, the use of contaminated water can be a major health threat.

Unsafe water leaves people at high risk of water-borne diarrhoeal diseases. Water scarcity, made worse by climate change, means crops fail, food supplies dwindle and people remain trapped in poverty. The daily treks for water get longer.

We can give the gift of safe, clean water by twinning our taps with water systems overseas.

The charity Toilet Twinning which is linked to Tearfund will use our Tap Twinning donation to help give sustainable, reliable and affordable access to safe, clean water in some of the world’s poorest communities. Tuesday 22nd of March was World Water Day and our topic after Easter was all about water, Thursday 3rd March was World Book Day!  We decided that we would make ‘reading books for pleasure’ a fun challenge to raise money for Malawi!

Spellings
We use No Nonsense spelling in Year 4. This ensures that pupils learn spellings in school - little and often. If you wish to practise spellings at home please ensure that your child can spell correctly all the Year 3 and 4 words in the file below.

Reading in Year 4
Please continue to read 4 times a week and access Oxford Reading Buddy to test your knowledge with a quiz. In addition, you can enjoy your own books and borrow books from our school or class Library!
