Sports Premium

PE and Sport Premium

The PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding designed to ensure that all pupils receive high-quality physical education, increased opportunities for physical activity, and access to competitive sport, both within and beyond the school day.

At Penwortham Primary School, the Sport Premium is used strategically and purposefully to secure sustained improvements in pupils’ physical development, health, wellbeing, and personal development. Our approach is firmly rooted in impact rather than provision, ensuring that funding leads to measurable and lasting outcomes for pupils.

We prioritise:

  • high-quality PE teaching supported by ongoing professional development

  • inclusive participation so that all pupils, including the least active, engage positively in physical activity

  • the development of confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership

  • a broad range of extra-curricular and competitive sporting opportunities

This ensures pupils not only acquire strong physical skills, but also develop the motivation and understanding needed to maintain healthy, active lifestyles now and in the future.

Impact and Recognition

Our sustained commitment to physical education and school sport has been recognised through the achievement of the Platinum School Games Mark, reflecting our exceptional and consistent provision. This award acknowledges:

  • high levels of pupil participation

  • inclusive practice

  • meaningful competitive opportunities

  • strong leadership of PE and school sport

The impact of our Sport Premium funding is clearly evident in pupils’ positive attitudes, increased engagement in physical activity, improved confidence, and enhanced wellbeing. Physical education and sport play a central role in supporting pupils’ personal development, contributing strongly to the school’s wider culture of achievement and wellbeing.

This approach reflects our ambition to provide an outstanding quality of education, in line with Ofsted’s expectations for personal development, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management.
