The Beach Hut

🌟 The Beach Hut

A Calm, Nurturing Space for Emotional Wellbeing

At Penwortham Primary School, we believe that a child’s emotional wellbeing is just as important as their academic progress. The Beach Hut is a dedicated, calming space within school where children can take time to regulate, reflect and feel supported.

Designed to be warm, welcoming and peaceful, The Beach Hut provides a safe environment for children who may need:

  • A quiet moment to calm or reset

  • Space to talk about their thoughts or feelings

  • Support with emotional regulation

  • A break from overwhelming situations

  • A nurturing environment to help them feel grounded and ready to learn

This space is an important part of how we care for the whole child, helping them feel understood, supported and ready to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

🌿 How Children Use The Beach Hut

Children may visit The Beach Hut:

  • As part of a planned emotional regulation session

  • Through pastoral or SEND support

  • Following a difficult moment in the school day

  • To practise calming strategies

  • To talk with a trusted adult

Sessions may be individual or small‑group depending on need.

🌿 Why The Beach Hut Matters

The Beach Hut helps children to:

  • Develop emotional literacy

  • Build resilience

  • Learn self‑regulation strategies

  • Feel safe, calm and supported

  • Re‑engage positively with learning

It is a key part of our Early Help and SEND provision, ensuring that children’s emotional needs are recognised and met.

🌿 Who Supports Children in The Beach Hut?

Children are supported by trained staff who understand emotional wellbeing, nurture principles and regulation strategies. Staff work closely with the SENDCo, class teachers and families to ensure that support is consistent and personalised.

🌿 How The Beach Hut Links to SEND

For some children, emotional regulation is a key part of their SEND profile. The Beach Hut provides:

  • A structured, supportive environment

  • A safe space for sensory or emotional breaks

  • Opportunities to practise strategies from support plans

  • A bridge between classroom learning and emotional needs

This ensures that children’s wellbeing is supported alongside their academic progress.
