Today we enjoyed making our Fruit Smoothies!
First we prepared our fruit and then we blended it together with juice and yoghurt.
Some of us liked it but some of us didnt!

This half term, as part of our Fighting Fit theme, we have learnt about the improtance of exercise.
We designed our own warm-up dance to help others to be ready for exercise too.

Today we were busy helping Miss McKenna plant trees on the field in the wind and rain!
We are looking forward to seeing them grow!
Anglo Saxon Dwellings in Forest Schools

In Forest School this week we learnt about Anglo-Saxon homes and how they were created. We discovered their homes face the sun and that they used wattle and daub to stick their walls together - we loved making this as we got unbelievably muddy!

We enjoyed odd socks day!
We talked about our differences and how we can celebrate being different.
During the week we talked a lot about using just 'one kind word' to make someone's day brighter.

We enjoyed tasting different fruits in our Design Technology lesson to see which flavours we like before we design our ownfruit smoothies.
We tried fruit such as melon, mango, plum, pineapple and pomegranate.

Year 2 have amazed me with how quickly they have learned to play their first 3 notes - B, A and G and can now play this piece - 'G is for Game Boy George'.

The children who came to our Wellbeing Wednesday session enjoyed a relaxing time with Tanya, focussing on breathing techniques and being aware of their senses.

We had a fantastic time during our paralympics activity session in the hall.
We discovered how tricky it is to save goals using only our hearing and learnt how to play Curling and Boccia.
Our Chair of Governors, Pat Jones came in to enjoy our session too!

We have been learning how to add 2 2-digit numbers together using Base 10 equipment.

Year 2 have been busy clearning planting beds, making room for some mystery bulbs!
They had to plant the bulbs underground to protect them over the winter.
They will be keeping a close eye on them to see when they begin to show above the ground!
I wonder what their flower will look like!

We loved our first week of Forest School making maps using landmarks like the Anglo Saxons and discovering the names of different plants and mushrooms in our Wild Wood area. We can't wait for next week where we will be learning about fire and how it was used in Anglo Saxon times and in future sessions, we are hoping to bake bread on the open fire and learn about equality and equity around the world.

We had a great time this morning on our walk around the local area.
We had to follow our map and look for landmarks and other different features of the area around us.

Plant Life Cycles - dissecting and observing

We dissected lily flowers today to investigate male and female parts of plants and studied each part carefully using magnifying glasses. We also used these to observe the different sections of a huge sunflower head. We are drying it out so we can all grow giant sunfowers next year.

Managing Money
Year 5 have had their first visit of the year from Mr. Souter. He spent the afternoon with us to begin a series of workshops on Money Management - Lessons for Life.
This session focused on our understanding of NEEDS and WANTS and the difference between these. We learnt the definition of debt and the difference beween good and bad debt. All the children listened, laughed and learnt. Mr Souter has asked for 4 Money Mentors to be chosen from the class who will prepare and deliver the next Money Management session to us. Watch this space!

Living life cycles in the classroom

Our classroom has been filled with wildlife so far this term. We are observing our caterpillars undergoing their metamorphosis and hatching out as butterflies and we had a visit from a chicken with her eggs and chicks - an egg was hatching as we watched! We were very lucky to see a complete life cycle in one cage at a single moment in time.

We are all learning to play trumpets, cornets, bass or trombones. Mr G was incredibly impressed as by the end of the first lesson all pupils could make a sound with their mouthpiece (called buzzing), play back simple rhythms and name different parts of their instruments.
