We had an informative and thought-provoking day on Tuesday at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool. Our main themes from the day were the human rights of respect, diversity, importance of communication and family and friends.
Year 6 'Evolution and Inheritance' Science Workshop
Date: 19th Oct 2022 @ 6:42pm
Last week, Year 6 had some special visitors in school. As part of their Science learning, 'Mr B and Mr T' came to talk to them about all things 'Evolution and Inheritance'. The children spent part of the day learning about the work of Charles Darwin and Mary Anning and had a go at being Paleontologists for themselves. They explored an array of different fossils and completed tasks, such as sorting, measuring, weighing and classifying. 'Mr B and Mr T' provided the perfect blend of knowledge, enthusiasm and humour. A fun day was had by all, including Miss Gabbott and Miss Fishwick!

Last night we had a games evening - starting with an outdoor game of Headhunters and then followed by a Beetle Drive and Quiz. Hot chocolate and biscuits before bed and everyone tucked up in their rooms by 10.30pm.
A very busy morning - but first teachers had to prize most children out of bed! After another lovely breakfast we had to pack our belongings and clear our bedrooms. Bags were packed and beds stripped for the laundry before we met our instructors for one last morning of activities.
Our three groups set off across the Borwick grounds to undertake challenges in the bouldering room, the high Leap of Faith challenge, archery, crate stacking and the Tower of Borwick. We met up agin for a quick lunch stop before a tour of the old Borwick Mansion House and infamous room 14. Tales of the past that we will keep secret on here but the children can share at home.
Many thanks to our instructors Paul, Ant and John for their passion and expertise.

Following a breakfast of bacon and sausage, we put on our very attractive Teletubbie inspired wooly onesies followed by our waterproof caving suits and looking gorgeous we set off to Ingleton for a full day of caving. The caves were magnificent filled with stalagmites, stalactites and fossils of coral and shells. We also learnt about the cave formation and how the local valleys and mountains were formed during glacial melts.
Before we had left Borwick Hall in the morning, we had learnt about moving ourselves out of our comfort zones, through our fear zone and into our growth zone - our caving challenges today definitely moved all of us through these stages! We crawled through gaps; waded through water; squeezed through narrow chasms and slid down rockfaces - all absolutely amazing experiences. Every pupil and member of staff pushed themselves and everyone left today feeling a little bit braver, a little bit stronger and very proud of themselves.
Our Year 6s have all grown in confidence and determination already this week - we are extremely proud of them and can't wait for another action packed day tomorrow.
Date: 27th Sep 2022 @ 8:32pm
Everyone woke up this morning refreshed after a great night's sleep to be greeted by a delicious hot breakfast. We then spent the day in our groups completing 3 activities. All Year 6 pupils and all staff (some showing huge 'digging deep' skills - pupils and staff) canoed along the canal; played games in the canoes and some even jumped into the canal to finish off the session! Across the groups we also participated in a ropes course; bouldering; high challenge and archery.
Our day finished off with roast dinner before our evening activities began with the tuck shop being a popular venue!
Again today, we have been so impressed with everyone's participation, enthusiasm, support for each other and it is brilliant seeing the pupils learn new skills, conquer fears and all of it is being done with huge smiles.

Our first day at Borwick started with a treasure hunt around the surrounding area of Borwick Hall - along the canal, over the aquaduct and along the river stopping off for a picnic in the sun. After meeting our instructors for the week, we split off into our three groups for an afternoon of team building challenges, including the crate challenge; crossing a stream on planks as a team; the pipe challenge and scaling a vertical wall. We had then earned our pizza and chips followed by apple crumble and custard before the biggest challenge of the day - making our own beds! I think we nearly lost a few pupils in the depths of the duvet covers! Our day finished with a huge game of Head Hunters around Borwick Hall grounds before hot chocoloate and biscuits.
We had some surprise visitors to Borwick Hall today as our linking school, Yealand Primary, joined us for a 'save the crates' challenge this afternoon and we are really pleased that they will be staying until Tuesday evening to share more adventures with us.

Today we had an amazing visitor in our school - Joel Fearon.
In assembly he talked to the children about his achievements and how he needed courage and resilience to reach his goals.
We all enjoyed a PE lesson with Joel during the day.

What an exciting and unusual day!
Joe from Teach Rex, visited school today with Thomas the gorilla. We learnt about how his family was taken when he was a baby and how he had managed to survive in the Congo. The children learnt of the devastating impact of deforestation and how small changes they make can make a big difference. Thomas was very nervous to begin with but relaxed when he realised how much we cared and wanted to help him.
Take a look at some of the photos below to give you a taste of the day and support a conversation at home.

Let the 22nd June be forever known as the Night of the Big Water Fight! Of course it was the teachers who won...
So much fun and team work today. Our children and staff have shown so much support and resilience to tackle some really BIG challenges! Climbing the big pole and then standing up on a very small and wobbly space before jumping for the trapeze was the start of the day. Following this we enjoyed aeroball - (basketball on a trampoline) and this afternoon archery.
Enjoy today's photographs and a few videos.

WOW! This has been a scorcher! Full sunshine all day, so lots of suncream and water hydration stops.
An early breakfast at 7.15am got us all up and out and ready for activities. Today we have enjoyed working together to build rafts - well done to all the scouts who had the knots perfected! The afternoon has been energetic and hot with an orienteering afternoon, followed by the Jacob's ladder climbing challenge and tonight a special game of Cluedo. Lots of photos today - hope you are enjoying them at home.
Date: 20th Jun 2022 @ 8:09pm
We arrived safely at Boreaton Park at 3.30 after a very noisy and musical journey!
Bags and cases were unpacked and we found our cabin for the week, 'Nuthatch' which has a grassed area for football, cricket and general chilling between activities. We have toured the site, found all the important places, unpacked bags and enjoyed a quiz this evening. Our PGL instructor for the week is Jess - look out for her in the photos. The competition has started for the tidiest room of the week and we are really excited for raft building in the morning!
What will tomorrow bring?
