Year 2 will soon design their own vehicles which they will then make.

First they needed to test out which type of wheel axle join they would like to use!

Exploring Habitats

Year 2 enjoyed getting outside looking for different habitats! We made some interesting discoveries!

Y2 become First Aiders!

This afternoon we took part in First Aid training with Andrea from Mini First Aid.

We learned how to call for help and what information we need to tell someone. Do you know your address including your postcode?

We know how to check if someone is breathing.

We had a go at basic CPR and also learned how to help someone who is choking.

We also learned how to put a patient into the recovery position. Can you show someone how to do this at home?

Jack and the Beanstalk!

We went on another Jack and the Beanstalk adventure today!

We took the cow to market, threw 'beans' out of the window and even climbed the beanstalk!

 

Smoothie tasting

Last week we tasted different fruits. This week we tasted fruit smoothies.

We have a better idea of which fruits work well together.

Now we will be able to plan and design our own recipe before we make our own fruit smoothie!

Keith Haring Artwork

This week we enjoyed looking at artwork by Keith Haring.

He created colourful artwork with active people in. 

We enjoyed creating our own artwork in the style of Keith Haring and will create our final piece for a display very soon.

Taekwondo Taster Day!

We had a great time trying out Taekwondo moves with Master Sam.

Fire and Rescue Service Visit

We had a visit from Penwortham's Fire and Rescue Service this afternoon.

We found out about staying safe and how to escape safely in the event of a fire. 

The children will be bringing home a reminder about fitting and checking your smoke alarm. I am sure they will tell you all how to check them weekly to make sure you all stay safe at home.

Fitness test!

We made a kick start to our theme with a fitness test! We had to do lots of shuttle runs, squats and speed bounces to see how many we could do in 30 seconds! We will see if we improve in a few weeks time!

We have been finding out about the impact of different exercises on our bodies in our Science lessons.

Fruit Tasting

We tasted different fruits so that we can think about the fruit we would like to put in our fruit smoothies.

Some of us found it tricky to know which was our favourite!

It was a yummy afternoon!

Y2 Local Walk

We had a super time on our local walk this morning!

We were really observant trying to notice what we could see, hear, smell and feel on our way around.

We then drew our own maps of our walk when we returned to school!

Y2 Autumn Art Gallery

Planting mystery bulbs!

We have enjoyed time outdoors looking for signs of Autumn, making dens for small animals and planting daffodil bulbs and mystery bulbs.

We look forward to watching to see how they grow throughout the year.

Art Week Fun

We have been having great fun in our Art lessons this week during Art Week.

We mixed Primary Colours in paintings yesterday and printed with Lego and other items.

We have also been finding out about a local artist, Dave Rob. We will be having a go at making our own pieces of Artwork following his style.

Sports Day 2022!

They enjoyed meeting our GB Athlete who stayed with us all morning. 

 

A yoga visit to Egypt!

Today Year 2 enjoyed their Yoga session with Katie from South Ribble Sports Development.

We travelled by plane and then met cobras, camels, scorpians and even Cleopatra!

GB Athlete visit!

Today we had an amazing visitor in our school - Joel Fearon.

In assembly he talked to the children about his achievements and how he needed courage and resilience to reach his goals.

We all enjoyed a PE lesson with Joel during the day.

The Day the Gorilla Came

What an exciting and unusual day!

Joe from Teach Rex, visited school today with Thomas the gorilla. We learnt about how his family was taken when he was a baby and how he had managed to survive in the Congo. The children learnt of the devastating impact of deforestation and how small changes they make can make a big difference. Thomas was very nervous to begin with but relaxed when he realised how much we cared and wanted to help him.

Keeping cool!

When the weather was hot earlier this week, we treated year 2 to a cooling foot spa while they worked!

We then carried out our Science experiment out in the shade and the breeze.

We tested to see which paper was the most absorbent.

Athletics Event at Priory Academy

Children from Year 3,4 and 6 represented school in an Athletics event at Priory Academy this week.

They did really well in all of their events including running, throwing and jumping.

They competed against other schools from the local area.

Well done everyone!

Local History Day - Learning about Preston Docks

We have had a great day learning all about the history of Preston Albert Edward Dock today!

We really enjoyed listening to our visiting hisotrian, Stephen, who told us all about how the docks were used a long time ago. He also talked to us about the banana boats and even about stowaways from the Carribbean!

Thank you Stephen for giving up your time to help us with our learning today!
